Have an Amazing Vincent Price Thanksgiving
Turkey day is just around the corner so I’ve done some digging and I’m skipping ahead in class to find the perfect holiday dishes from the Treasury of Great Recipes.
This is your portal page to the recipes, which are tied together as a series so it’ll be easy to click through. Please enjoy and please, as always, share like you work for me.
Thanksgiving with Vincent Price
Price’s Thanksgiving entry starts on page 279 with a gorgeous picture of a happy chef carving a turkey on a checkerboard cloth-covered table in front of a roaring fire. Good, Lord, can you get more iconic? The Wayside Inn has been serving bird since 1633, was featured in a book of the same name by Henry Longfellow, and is still in operation over in Sudbury, just 50 miles outside Boston.
Not every classic dish is listed as a recipe in the Treasury, but most of them are listed on a menu somewhere within its pages. Price writes about Thanksgiving in the preamble to the chapter, saying:
“Thanksgiving dinner as served in the old Colonial kitchen of the inn follows the New England Tradition, and I am grateful that we’re reminded of our heritage–a bountiful one as you can see–every autumn. — Vincent Price, 1963″
But try finding a recipe for cranberry sauce or candied yams in the Treasury. You won’t. You have to dig.
I dug.
